LIFE+: HAPPYFISH

Project HAPPYFISH: "Saving life in meanders and oxbow lakes of Emajõgi River on Alam-Pedja NATURA 2000 area"

is implemented to restore and to preserve the unique ecosystems of River Emajõgi with its oxbow lakes and meadows, and also to guarantee the habitats preservation and populations stability of European conservation priority fish species Aspius aspius, Gobitis taenia, Misgurnus fossilis and Cottus gobio on Alam-Pedja Nature Reserve in Estonia.

Project objectives

1. The valuable spawning grounds and habitats are restored and preserved.

2. The reintroduction and protection of European importance fish species as Aspius aspius, Gobitis taenia, Misgurnus fossilis, Cottus gobio has in Alam-Pedja Natura 2000 area.

The project HAPPYFISH is coordinated by NGO Wildlife Estonia. It lasts from Februar 2009 to November 2012.

NGO Wildlife Estonia is established in 2000. Our aim is to protect rivers and other aquatic habitats. We care about the nature, biodiversity and fish in particular.

HABITATS
Springs, rivers and lakes are our common treasure. The more natural status they have the more precious they are. 

COMPETENCE
Successful application and implementation of river restoration and fish population status improvement projects. Scientific ichthyology studies with traditional and modern bio-telemetric methods.
